Nutrition

Wife of Sean Williams, Cindy has been a competitive runner for around 25 years. She has represented Australia on multiple occassions on the World Mountain Running Championships and has come top 10 in the City To Surf. She is passionate about nutrition for runners and has great ideas on how to improve performance through a healthy diet.

Top Tip

Writing down what you are eating is a great habit to get into.

I am not a professional dietician, and you might want to consult with one for further advice. There are many books out there on healthy eating and lots of information on the internet, but it basically boils down to one thing - in order to lose weight you need to burn up more than you consume; it's that simple. As well, as a runner you need to make sure that you are also fuelling yourself properly.

My general tips are:

1."Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper" is a good way to eat. I would encourage you to have a low-GI cereal like oats and some sort of protein.

2. Remember to have lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, good protein at each meal, and enough carbs to fuel your running.

3. Don't worry about being too obsessive about your diet. Focus on following your running program and enjoying eating healthy food.
